Goldworkers List (Section VII).

John Detheridge married Phebe Piper at St Mary, Islington in 1800; both were from that parish.
A James John, son of John and Phebe Detheridge, was christened at St Luke, Old Street in 1804.
A further two children of John and Phebe were christened at St Luke, Finsbury in 1807 and 1810. No addresses are shown in any of these records.
John Detheridge in various forms of spelling was assessed to Land Tax on property in Gee Street 1808-31
John Dethridge entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1811 as a gold worker from 9 Gee Street.
The christening records in 1816 and 1818 respectively at St Luke, Finsbury of Frederick George and William Henry, sons of John and Phebe Detheridge show their address as Gee Street and their father as a silversmith. William Henry aged 3 years died at Gee Street in 1821.
The burial of Phebe Detheridge aged 45 years in 1823 recorded at St Luke’s also shows her last address as Gee Street.
As a widower John married the widow Jane Castle at St Mary, Islington in 1828.
The burial of Jane Detheridge aged 54 years in 1841 recorded at St Luke’s also shows her last address as Gee Street.
The burial of a John Detheridge aged 38 years in May 1844 recorded at St Martin in the Fields also shows his last address as Gee Street and, in view of the last address and his age, he may have been the James John christened in 1804 and also the silversmith who entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1826 as a plate worker from 29 Great Sutton Street, Clerkenwell in partnership with John Cottrill (Grimwade p.473).
Of the John Detheridge who married Phebe in 1800 no further clear trace has been found.
