FERNELL, Edward (Grimwade p.508)

In 1787 as a bachelor and Silversmith aged 38 years he married the widow Alice Grimes of St Paul, Covent Garden parish at St James, Westminster.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Fetter Lane from 1788-1801.
His widow Alice was assessed on the property from 1802.

2 August 1786 James son of John Skelhorn of Maid Lane Surrey Cutler apprenticed to Edward Fernell of Fetter Lane London working silversmith.

26 March 1802 Edward Fernell of Fetter Lane Saint Dunstans in London Needle Seller will proved. Wife Alice mentioned. Reference: TNA PROB 11/1371/299

Edward Fernell, baptized at Wokingham, Berkshire on 6 Aug 1747, the son of William & Martha Fernell (probably the William Fernel [sic] who married Martha Winter on 3 Feb 1745, Tilehurst, Berkshire).

Edward Fernell, age 55, buried at Bunhill Fields, Islington, London on 23 Feb 1802. His will, written 5 Nov 1797 and proved 26 Mar 1802, mentions wife Alice Fernell, mother Martha Fernell, siblings Richard Fernell, William Fernell, Martha Hodges, Susan Hay and Elizabeth Howell, and niece Sarah Hodges. Mentions properties at 119 Fetter Lane, London (dwelling); 4 Ebenezer Pl., Lambeth, Surrey; 79 Tottenham Court Rd., Middlesex; 25 Manor Place Rd, Walwoth, Surrey, and his mother’s residence in Wokingham, Berkshire.

His wife Alice Fernell, age 70, buried 9 Nov 1809, also at Bunhill Fields.
