He signed indentures in 1757 as the son of Thomas Pepper deceased of the Gardiners (sic) Company to be the apprentice of Southern Payne (Grimwade p.348) of the Clockmakers Company. He was made free in 1763-4.
Thomas Gosling (Grimwade p.320) signed indentures in 1769 to be his apprentice.
He was assessed to Land Tax on unidentified property in St Mary Staining precinct until 1769. He had entered a mark at Goldsmiths from Staining Lane in 1767.
He had notified a move to Lillypot Lane in 1770 and was assessed to Land Tax on property in St Anne and St Agnes precinct from 1770-76.
The Land Tax on the same property was assessed on his former apprentice Thomas Gosling from 1777.
The London Poll Book of 1796 listed Thomas Pepper, Clockworker at George Street, Fetter Lane. He had paid for trade directory entries from 1789-91 as a goldsmith, enameller and jeweller at that address and was assessed to Land Tax at Mouldmakers Row, George Street from 1787-99. A new tenant was assessed on the property thereafter.
