DAVENPORT, Samuel (Grimwade p.485)

Post by MCB »

He was listed at Lime Street in Land Tax assessment books in 1786-1828, the later assessments describing him as a hardware man. Edward Davenport was assessed on the property in the same capacity in 1829.
He had entered marks at Goldsmiths’ Hall alone from this address as a plate worker in 1786 and in partnership with Edward Davenport (Grimwade p.485) in 1794.
A trade directory entry of 1788 described him as a jeweller and goldsmith there.
The indentures signed in 1809 for his son Samuel to be the apprentice of William Seaman (Grimwade p.654) describe his father as a silversmith.
The Will of Samuel Davenport of the Stock Exchange and gentleman late of Lime Street was proved for probate on 22nd October 1834 (National Archives reference PROB 11/1837/80).
