This information tells us that Gabriel Sleath was probably a thrice married man !

Grimwade gives him as married, (prior to 1704 ) to an Anne (surname unknown) who died in 1729

Then he married a Jane Crane in 1729, and Grimwade was rather puzzled that Sleath's will of 1756 named his wife as Joan.
Unless Grimwade is mistaken about this marriage, Jane must have died before 1756.

His third marriage was to Joan Crump who was undoubtedly related to the Francis Crump who had been apprenticed to Sleath and subsequently became his partner . Whether she was his nephew named in the will, or the sister of another Crump is unknown .
