DEANE, Thomas (not in Grimwade )

London Evening Post reports "Friday night last some rogues got over a wall at Mr Dean's a silver Buckle-maker , in Norman's Buildings; they broke into the kitchen and stole a great deal of furniture " A similar account is given by the Gazetteer and New Daily Advertiser of Monday, October 12, 1767 which adds " Their design was to get into the shop but were prevented by its having good fastenings and a large dog upon the spot" .
Norman's buildings were recorded as being in Old Street.

In PR1773 as Bucklemaker at Normans Buildings, Old Street.

As the list of goldsmiths in the Parliamentary report were,it is believed, compiled from the Goldsmiths Company marks registers , it appears that Thomas Deane probably had a mark in the lost Smallworkers register. Or was missed by Grimwade.

As William & John DEANE (who also made buckles) also were in Old Street in 1764 -1766 they were probably related to Thomas, perhaps brothers of his.

There is certainly a connection between Thomas Deane and George Gines (see http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 74&t=30722.) George Gines' will of 1749 (proved 1751) gives a Thomas Dean as grandson, and a Non -conformist record of an adult baptism of a George Gines Stibbs in 1768 gives the parents as Christopher Stibbs and Mary, daughter of Thomas and Mary Dean. The same will leaves all Gines residue to "My two daughters Mary Dean , wife of Thomas Dean and the said Ann Wells equally to be divided between them, share and share alike "

Heal records a Thomas Dean, goldsmith and jeweller at No 80, Minories in 1796 who may have been a later generation .
