John and Charles Turner - Receipt - 1819

Image

Receipt from John and Charles Turner, Goldsmiths and Jewellers, 58 & 59, New Bond Street, London.

The ink hand writing on this receipt is very faded, the date appears to be the 1st January 1819 and it is for a gold engraved seal costing £1-10s. The customer's name was Kennedy.

John and Charles Turner were retail goldsmiths and jewellers who were in business by 1807. Their partnership was dissolved on the 31st December 1835, owing to the death of John and the retirement of Charles. The business was continued by John Turner jnr. and and Charles's son, Thomas Binns Turner. The firm continued at the same address until c.1870.
