Please help on 393AL AFB 800 mark + Italian?

Post by mistihm »

I have a few pieces in this pattern. I believe them to be German silver, but I can not find information anywhere. The marks are 393AL AFB 800 Please help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Misti,

I do not think that it is German, the shape and type of the hallmarks look more like Italian Hallmarks. 393AL is probably he registration number of the maker and the province in which it has been assayed. A.F.B. is probably the maker's initial and 800 is for 800 Silver. The only thing which troubles me is that for Italy, there should be a 5 branches star before 393AL. For Germany, you should have a Half moon and a crown. Maybe somebody else could confirm or not.

Hope I have helped a bit.

Best Regards
Myriam

Hi,
Yes, definitely Italian, the star was not added to the state mark until sometime in the 60's or so. Hopefully someone can confirm with an exact date.
Regards, Tom
