Need help to ID mark on silver seal

Post by burchard »

Hi, This is a silver and glass seal, very tiny marks so hope someone out there can help me to ID them. The person it came from said it was French but I can't match the marks to the French page here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Danna

Wonderful seal. It was made by Georg Adam Scheid in Vienna. The dog head standard mark is for .800 silver and was used ca. 1886-1921 in Austria-Hungary. Is the center shaft rock crystal?

Thank you very much. I kept thinking it was a dog head but couldn't find a match. I'm just calling it glass because rather it was better then I think instead of worse. I don't see any air bubbles which would mean glass to me and don't know how else to tell.
Thanks again, Danna

Hello there, Normally if it is crystal of this age, it should be a little bit yellowish in colour as the content of tin was different than today which makes it very white.

I concur, it is a gorgeous piece
