Animal Horn with Silver Ends

Post by Hornman »

I have a natural animal horn with apparently silver ends hallmarked both ends as shown with BG9, a hammer and sickel within a five pointed star and 875.
I would like to know the meaning of the hallmark and, if possible, the purpose of the horn, which may be a drinking vessel as there is no aperture in the small end for use as a powder horn or as a musical instrument. I regret that my camera us unable to show sdetails of the hallmark which is very small, but a sketch is included.

The hallmark is Russian and post 1958. You are most likely right that is was made as a drinking horn. Best wishes, Mike.
