A stanhope with a curious mark.

Post by Granmaa »

This is a little silver Stanhope in the form of a fish taking a piece of bait.

Its body is made of eight seperate pieces. The picture itself is a girl kneeling beside her bed and the Lord's prayer beside her.

There is a tiny mark stamped on the tail, which I have magnified vastly; it looks like a lizard perhaps.

I'd like to know where it came from if possible.

Unable to make out the mark but the style of the fish looks like French around 1900-20. Have you checked French hallmarks against it? Best wishes, Mike.

Thanks for your help Mike; I didn't see anything similar in the French hallmarks page.
I'll try and post a better picture this afternoon, but the mark is only 1mm long so its rather tricky.
Do you think its more likely to be a maker's mark or a standard mark?

I really can't do any better than this I'm afraid; does anyone recognize this shape?
