Austro-Hungarian style candelabra-unknown mark

Post by Italiansilver »

Hi ,
I have a couple of candlestick, the style is totally Austro-Hungarian but the mark is unknown, I have done a search in the forum and I have found only one suggestion to Yoga silver...but sincerly the stile is not convincing me at all.
Is casted and the mark is MA900
Any other suggestion?

Hi,

Would call the candlestick " neo-Louis 15th style" and indeed not Yogya silver. My guess Italian.

Best,

thanks!
I bought in Italy form (north-east) Italian seller...but...
I can say that in Italy 900% silver content is quite uncommon, but it exists (and sincerely speaking ... I have seen personally this grade only on two different pieces from the same silversmith...never identified)
Additionally I can say that, from the marks that I have seen, indicating only the silver grade and the manufacturer, the silver content mark is separated from the silversmith initials/silversmith symbol. In this case it seems to be a single mark.
In few words it is not convincing me...but it could be...

Pasarel today's advertisement: Pair Of Heavy Cast 900 Silver Candlesticks, Italy, 1950’s.

Thanks! very interesting!!!!
Regarding Pasarel description, it is not correct. Marking it only with silver content after 1934 is out of the law. So if there are really Italian are dating before 1934.
So up to now I have to stay...
or unknown or Italian (1872-1934)

I can survive :-) because I bought because I like...
but I'm still curious,, because one part of the fun is spending time in finding marks, so if anybody can add some discovers is welcome :-)

Oel your answer gave me a hint.
Up to now regarding this candlesticks I have done mainly mark research
today I have done a style research and I have found that candelabra with the same style are often referred to "Austro-Hungarian Judaica candlesticks"
maybe this gives additional direction for the search
