Post by antiquv »

Hello
i have this box, it is 15 cm in wide and around 8 cm high.
It looks like an early reliquary box, but i cant find any marks
and i can understand the writhing on it, can anyone help me
to understand the origin and age of this box ?

Hi,
The inscription is in Greek:
``Saints Constantine and Helen``

In another image (bottom) is Saint Mercurius, another Orthodox saint.
Have it electronically tested for exact alloy composition.
No marks is no surprise.Could be anywhere in Greek Orthodox world (excluding Russia with well established marking system).
Even Coptic.
Rather crude embossing is not a sign of antiquity. Could be even late 19th century.
Tell us the alloy composition if and when tested.
