Old Silver spoon - Help

Post by emilgaigns »

Hello everyone. Last year I bought a beautiful silver spoon, and I don’t really know much about it. I will post a picture, maybe someone can help. Thanks.

Total weight is 43.1 gr and 5,6cm in diameter.

you must post better pictures - closer to the spoon. Focus on details and especially hallmarks.

from your pictures - my first idea was that this is old.
Second - I got suspecius. The twisted handle say around 1900 - to me.
but my first was that it smuch older. Therefor better pictures please.

My opinion is also that is much older than 1900. Got it alon with an 17 century english spoon...

As speculated earlier, this piece was made in the 17th century style but actually made sometime from the late 19th century to first half of the 20th century and most likely in either Holland or Hanau Germany.

I don’t know what to say, did a silver composition test and is silver made pre 1840, showed traces of gold and lead..

It could be older and the bowl is just repaired but I wouldn't count on silver purity tests to gauge the age, with many towns laws being different from region to country throughout Europe and this piece is definitely Continental European no matter when it was made.

the finish of the figure do not indicate old, but newer.
Having said that I dont know anything for sure.

But i would not buy it as an old one. If I found it.
