Trying to figure out the marks of this piece, there's quite clearly a shield, a fish and what looks to be "HW" in script, it was purchased by a "we buy gold" type of place, so I'm fairly confident its not plate since they test for that, but does "feel" to be less pure than sterling.
Any ideas on where this piece might be from? I've had it for a couple of years and can't seem to find any marks even halfway similar to mine via Google.
Unknown Mark - Fish and Shield
Re: Unknown Mark - Fish and Shield
Hi welcome to the forum. 1st mark is the town mark for Zürich in Switzerland, early 19th century (1820-1830)

Awesome! Thank you very much!

The fish is a Zurich assayer's mark used 1830-1833 (although which of the two assay masters of the period - Otto Heinrich Wiskemann or David Conrad Fries II - is not known) and the maker's mark is that of Johannes Weber IV (1784-1846, master 1806)
