Silver cigarette case, not sure of origin or date

Post by siegela »

Hello, recently I inherited some of my father's objects, including some pieces of silver, in particular I have trouble trying to get information from this silver cigarette case since I'm not sure of the language, I looked for more visible marks but I could only find "L84" inside. In the section of Russian marks I found information about the number 84 but I didn't find any similar.
Could someone guide me about the origin and year of this piece?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Cigarette case looks genuine but cannot recognize what`s in front of 84 in the mark.
The closest could be the cross for Kistroma (in an oval without notches).
The same mark should be on both sides, as well as maker`s initials (are there more marks ?).
"БОГАТЫРСКАЯ ЗАСТАВА" means Bogatir flag.
Bogatir was Russian medieval warrior.
Search for more marks, please.

Imperial Russia, of course. My typo - Kostroma is correct spelling, but just guessing.
84 is the fineness in Zolotniki (.875).

Search for more marks on both sides.

Mind my asking but what indicates that this cigarette case would be from imperial Russia, nothing in my mind. The marking is incorrect, marks are missing etc. It would be interesting to see the measures of the case. It might tell something of its origin. As for now, not Russian irrespective of the "84". In addition, the font is strange for being Russian from the 19th cent. The style looks rather new in my eyes...but ?
