Unknown Marks - Silver Gilt Brooch - possibly Viennese?

Post by tassiedevil »

Hello everyone

I have acquired this pretty brooch.

Usually I can figure out the hallmarks but this one has me stumped.

Due to the letters/numbers used I'm not even sure I have it the correct way up!

I thought that it may be from Vienna?

Any information/light that can be shed would be appreciated :-)

Haven't done this before so hope I got the pictures etc in all right :-)

Cheers

I should also have mentioned that the pin has the word "GILT" printed on it.

Hi Tassiedevil,

Welcome to the Forum.

I appreciate that the mark may be difficult to capture, but can I ask you to try again to capture a clearer, sharp image of it. Take the photo in natural daylight and use the macro feature on your camera.

They were taken in daylight with the Macro setting :-) I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Unfortunately the marks are under the pin hinge which restricts how far in I can get.

SOLVED! Re: Unknown Marks - Silver Gilt Brooch

Hello

Just goes to show you can't believe everything you are told :-)

After many sleepless nights searching - the brooch hall marks are a Unicorn, 9 & W and it is 9 ct gold (not silver/gilt), only the pin is gilt. It is made by Willis in Melbourne early 1900's.

Cheers!

Hi,

That was the reason for a request of a clearer mark image, I had hoped the left hand mark may have proved to be a 'Wheatsheaf:

A clearer image would still be appreciated for our records.
