A Maine souvenir spoon of new and very attractive design is being gotten out by the Howard Sterling Co., Providence, R. I., and will be on the market soon. The handle bears the figure of a sailor, cutlass in hand, with a laurel wreath above his head. On the tip is shown the Capitol at Washington and on the back is the Washington monument. Inside the bowl of the spoon is represented the battleship Maine as she appeared when sailing the sea. in excellent detail, with the date on which the ship was built and the date of her destruction.

Stephen C. Howard reached New York on Friday last, after a particularly pleasant and successful journey to the Pacific coast. Mr. Howard looks much improved in health, and confidently expects a rushing Fall business in the Howard Sterling Co.'s wares.

The latest double lever sleeve button is the “ Whipsaw.” The supposition “ that the latest must be the best ” is not the only ground for thinking that this button contains qualities which place it on a par with the best double lever buttons now' on the market. The writer has seen the button and had its working explained to him. It can easily be adjusted and removed without injury to the cuff ; it sits close to the cuff, and is strong and reliable. The manufacturers, Howard & Son, Providence, R. I, have placed it upon the market to accommodate a few of their patrons, and we feel confident in predicting for the novelty a general popularity. It is their intention to make the “ Whipsaw ” in as many designs as they apply to their celebrated American lever, namely, over 800. Samples may already be seen at the firm’s New York office, 176 Broadway, where George W. Parks, their genial representative, will be pleased to show them. By referring to illustrations contained in the advertisement o£ the Messrs. Howard the reader will readily understand its principle.

The president of the reorganized Howard Sterling Co. is John J. Banigan, W. Howard Ellis is secretary and treasurer, and Theodore Bender is superintendent. The capital stock of the new corporation is $126,000, not $125,000, as erroneously stated last week.
