Maker I.D. please

Post by Eliot »

Hi all,

Does anyone recognize the maker's mark on this spoon? I think that I have Hamburg and Friedrich Christoph Greve 1829-1854 (Assay) correct? I just can't decipher the maker. Also, why does it not have a concession mark if FCG worked '29-'54 and concession marks came into use in 1820? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, cannot read the maker's mark either. But a concessionist's mark would only be necessary if the object had actually been made by a concessionist. If the master had made it, no concessionist was involved and no concessionist's mark necessary. Regards, Bahner

Hi Bahner - Thanks so much for your reply. Would this silver most likely be .900 purity? Regards, Ann

Hello, not sure what the Hamburg guild would demand but it should have been 12 or 13 Lot, which equals 750/1000 or 812/1000 parts fine. 900 was not in use in Germany at that time. Regards, Bahner
