Hello, I'm having a problem finding the silversmith with this mark. It's an oval cartouche with the initials "RW" inside of it. Thank you for your assistance.
I'm pretty sure that this is a pseudo-mark, not a London hallmark at all. I note your location is quoted as NYC so I think that you may be looking at a 19th century American silversmith. Any other opinions?
Thank you so much for your input concerning this serving spoon. I looked up Robert Wilson. He was a silversmith in New York from 1803 until 1810 and then moved to Philidelphia and was active until 1825. When you look at the timeline you have to stop and wonder since his early life was taking place right after the revolutionary war, was he a closet Brit loving tory, or.....just your run of the mill rip off artist? Once again thank you for all of your assistance, Kevin
