Can you confirm my date on this piece?

Post by cringlo »

Hi there, this was another piece I bought in my bumper bundle and I think i've identified it as 1840 - please could one of you kind experts make my day and let me know if i'm right? By the way the maker was Charles Reily and George Storer. One more thing do you think its a pepper pot or a vanity piece? I put it next to a 2p piece for scale - it just looks a tad too big to be a pepper pot.

Hi Cringlo,
Yes, 1840, Reily and Storer were exceptionly fine silversmiths, their work is much sought after, they entered their mark in 1829.
I would think it a pepper or spice pot, it looks like you picked up a great lot, well done,
Regards Trev.

Hi Trev,

Many thanks for that at least I got that one right!! I'm just so impressed with all you guys and your extensive knowledge. I have to say i'm such a novice but I find hallmarks fascinating and I can understand how you can get hooked on them! Thanks again Trev.
