POMANDER 13luth
POMANDER 13luth
Hi
I think it's a pomander, but is not it too big? 8x8cm.
It seems to me that the date from the mark is 182 .. and F1 over the date. .F1 is the symbol of the Assay Office from the Galicia of the city of Przemyśl but since 1866 and here is the date 182 ...?What do you think?
Do you recognize the goldsmith?
Regards

Hello!
It's from Olmütz. I don't know, what is pomander, but this is a string holder.
I Dont't have list from the makers from Olmütz this time, maybe other members have.
Best regards!
Krisztián

Re: POMANDER 13luth
Hi Krisztián .
Thanks for the answer.
I think, however, that it's a pomander. A dish for fragrances. Enter in wikipedia :)
The mark also does not suit me to Olmütz.
Screen from the auction house with the pomander.

Hi,
Krisztián is right about Radelpunze F1 for Olmütz in Bohemia. The same unidentified maker on top compared with your mark.
It is a Biedermeier string holder, more commonly seen in Central Europe but there are e.g.American as well.Have seen several in museums of applied art, so there is no doubt about its purpose.Pomanders may look similar but smaller.String holder can easily accommodate a ball of string.

Re: POMANDER 13luth
I don't want to convince you, but I can show some string holder from old auctions too.
(admin edit - see Posting Requirements )
From your the wristlet is missing.
And I'm not at my sources, but I'm pretty sure, that F1 is Olmütz in that time.
But believe, what you want! :)
Best regards!

Hi Krisztián
I want to know how it really is and not how it suits me :)
Please, post photos from old auctions with string holders for comparison with mine. Is it known in what years was this mark in Olmütz in force?

I don't want to convince you. I just know the truth, and maybe my answer can help to others.
This mark used between 1807-1866.
