Art Deco bowl marked only silver mexico

Post by Decsilver »

Hello all! I'm wondering if anyone has any info on what this mark means. I have not done Any acid tests but this piece seems to be some quantity of good silver based on color, smell, and sound of the piece. Does this marking mean anything? I think it's a cool bowl and will be beautiful cleaned up. Thanks!

Yes, this mark is usually sterling silver (92.5% silver) or at least coin silver (90% silver), and I have read that objects which were made before 1948 in Mexico had this hallmark, after 1948 Mexico adopted a "federal eagle" hallmark which consisted of an eagle symbol and a number, but in the first half of the 20th century a variety of marks have been found on silver from Mexico, including "SILVER MEXICO," I believe your object will test positive for a high silver content, but if you want to know for certain just take it to a person who has knowledge of silver testing procedures :::
