A Hanau Jubilee
Hanau was celebrating the 150th Anniversary of its State Academy of Design from the 2nd to 5th of June. The 4th and 5th of the month were given up to a "Cellini Festival." The Cellini-Exposition of local gold and silver smithing art work was visited by many former students.

UNKNOWN
Above is a set of unknown Hanau marks, see: https://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_hanau_marks_01.html However, a clue to their possible origin may be found in the details of the English importer.
R.G.A. - London - 1898
Rosina Gertrude Alexander of R.G. Birch was declared bankrupt in 1900. Among her creditors were the Hanau manufacturers, Schleissner Söhne and Weinrank & Schmidt. Although nowhere near conclusive, this information may offer just a clink of light as to the possibility of origin.

ZIMMERMAN
Hanau
An example of the work of Zimmerman exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition held at Philadelphia in 1876:
HANAU
Silver Casket, made by Zimmerman, of that place. The design is graceful and pretty, and not over elaborate. The central panel is particularly
excellent for its well-balanced figure. But aside from the skill evinced in the design, the casket deserves attention for the fine and workmanlike manner in which it is made, showing a skillful use of the hammer, the chisel and the graver’s tool.

RITTER & Co.
Hanau
An example of the work of Ritter & Co. exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition held at Philadelphia in 1876:
HANAU
Silver Perfume-Box—being one selected from the exhibit made by Ritter & Co., of that town. In shape, in decorative and ornamental treatment and in workmanship, this dainty little object is worthy of great praise. The reader should observe how each detail of the enrichment contributes to the harmony and completeness of the object as a whole, and how perfectly the several parts of the work are proportioned. It is an object that fills and satisfies the eye at the first glance, and invites a more careful examination of its elaborate excellencies. Each part can be studied separately: the lid of the box, with its admirably grouped swans ; the simple yet elegant bands surrounding the body of the vessel ; the charming little figures who make merry with the cap and bells of Mirth and the mask of Tragedy; the vigorous modeling of the lions’ heads, bound by the jaws around the stem, and the plain ornamentation of the foot, conveying a sense of strength by its very simplicity and precision of outline.

Re: Hanau Advertisements and Information
The Hanau Jewelry and Diamond Industry
Washington D.C., April 2.—The United States and England are the best markets for the Hanau, Germany, jewelry industry. The chief exports are half-finished articles, such as brooches, pins, lockets, etc., ready to be set with stones. Consul General F. T. Dumont, at Frankfort-on-Main, reports to the Department of Commerce that there has been a marked improvement in the industry this year as compared with last. The domestic market is good and the majority of the manufacturers have resumed full working hours. High-priced articles of fine quality are most in demand, customers being the new rich, while the middle classes are no longer able to buy even the medium quality jewelry purchased in former years.
The diamond cutters of Hanau, of which there are about 1,500, are fully occupied, chiefly with contract work for Dutch companies. The kind of work performed by the Hanau cutters has changed gradually in the past 10 years. Before the war the German cutter was considered more reliable and thorough than the Dutch, Consul General Dumont advised, and the most valuable stones were given to him to cut. During and since the war highly skilled labor has been scarce in Germany and cheaper stones. are being cut by men trained in the eight facet but who cannot be trusted with the 32 and 36 faceting.
