Information about company Bell & Bros.

Post by Llyswen »

I have some sterling silver forks that are marked Bell & Bros. I did a search of the site and turned up Samuel Bell, and he did set up shop in San Antonio where the original owner lived, but it is marked Bell & Bros. not Samuel Bell's mark. Does anyone know anything about this company?

Thank you.

I can post a photo of the fork but not sure it is necessary as it is clearly marked Bell & Bros.

Please disregard my previous -- missed the reference to a San Antonio origin.

Bell & Brothers (David Bell, Powhatan Bell, and Jessup M. Bell), San Antonio, 1860-1889.

They were the sons of the Samuel Bell you mentioned.

Not sure if it matters or you may already know but your fork is the Cottage pattern by Gorham so Bell & Bros are merely the retailers.
