Silver Casket from the Launch of H.M.S. Ajax

Post by dognose »

Some images of the recently re-discovered silver casket presented to Her Grace the Duchess of Sutherland on the occasion of the launching of H.M.S. Ajax at Greenock on the 21st March 1912.

The super Dreadnought battleship H.M.S. Ajax was, at the time, the largest and heaviest battleship built on the Clyde and carried a crew of 900 officers and men. It was built at a cost of nearly £2,000,000 by Scotts Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd..

The casket was manufactured By George Edward & Sons and assayed at the Glasgow Assay Office.

Hi,
Magnificent piece of history.
I can bet it was designed or at least influenced by Archibald Knox.
Regards
