Extra Marks On Pairpoint Card Tray

Post by mr karl »

Hi all,
I found this neat Pairpoint card tray at the site of an old Victorian mansion that had burned years ago and is now being excavated for new construction. The piece was somewhat distorted from heat and some damage occured below the birds tail, but the silverplate and guilding held up remarkably well and I was able to straighten it out to usable condition. Two questions:
1. Does anyone know what year this pattern (1424) was manufactured?
And
2. It is marked E+a/5.00 to the left of the hallmark, could anyone please tell me what this signifies?

Here are the pics:

Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Karl.

The etched numbers and letters are possibly an inventory mark for someone's personal inventory, done for insurance purposes. It's a really lovely piece!
