Tea caddy - French hallmarks?

Post by afsilverholliday »

Hi,

Purchased a tea caddy from anauction which was listed as French "indistinct marks"

One marks within the square punch seems to have a "II"? The other looks laike an urn or a jug with handles? can anyone please help me need help me with identification. I have spent time looking here on French stamps, and others on the web plus different countries ie Germany, Holland, Baltic but to no avail

...to add, the marks are on the lid and the funnel under the lid, the urn type mark is within the oval stamp

I think it`s Portugal, either Lisbon or Porto; cannot see properly.
Here is the link to older and newer Portuguese marks to compare:

Maker`s mark is in an oval.

Yes you are right, the stamp seems to be the .830, eagle head II, 1900-1913, suprisingly small stamps for an article the size of a tea caddy, more for a caddy spoon.

I much apreciate the info and quick reply
