17th century Swiss Spoon, Herisau?

Post by legrandmogol »

I was very fortunate to pick up this old Swiss spoon which I believe comes from the city of Herisau but I am not at all certain of this. The style of the spoon was very popular in the nearby city of St. Gallen.

Hi Legrandmogol
Forum Member Stecci (Angelo Steccanella) wrote a brochure "Goldschmiede von Herisau AR" in 2013.
The brochure is availabele as free download from his homepage. Just google his name and the first hit is his page.
He list an unknown silversmith "MH", active around 1650-1700, and a Hans-Ulrich Mittelholzer, 1773-1849, which also made Apostle Spoons.
Your "H" mark really looks like the "H" used in Herisau.
I do not know if Stecci is still active, I have not seen a post from him for long. But check his homepage, also for contact details.
Regards
Jörg

Thanks, The one mark is a decent match, not exactly perfect but pretty close
