The house of C. D. Peacock has removed its mail-order department from the basement to the fourth floor, where the facilities for doing a mail-order business have been greatly increased.

Robert Peacock, brother of the late C. D. Peacock, who founded the jewelry firm of C. D. Peacock, died last Friday afternoon at his home, 731 E. 50th St. Mr. Peacock was 70 years old and had been very feeble during the last eight months. His death had been expected hourly during the past week. He was born in Chicago, but in his early manhood went into the forests of the northern States and developed a prosperous lumber business. He returned to Chicago 30 years ago. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie B. Peacock, and four daughters. Two of his sons, Harry and Thomas Peacock, reside in Chicago, and two other sons, Daniel and Ket, live in Montana. The funeral took place from his late residence on Sunday at 3 p.m. The interment was at Oakwoods Cemetery.

Walter J. Buffington, vice-president and general manager, of C. D. Peacock, Inc., is spending several weeks in northern Minnesota, fishing and resting after moving the business into its new quarters in the Palmer House.

A. Engelmann, formerly a retail jeweler at West Point; Nebr., is now head of the clock department of C. D. Peacock, vice Mr. Gerber, who is now with Marshall Field & Co.

W. J. Buffington, diamond manager for C. D. Peacock, returned, last week, from New York, where he went to identify a $15,000 pearl necklace, stolen in Memphis, Tenn., and found in New York. Mr. Buffington made the original sale.

H. A. Brandt, formerly with Marshall Field & Co., and C. D. Peacock, have embarked in the retail jewelry business for themselves at 449 E. 63d St., room 4. This location is only temporary as Mr. Brandt intends to move into a store after February.

Mrs. Esther Peacock, 82 years old, a Chicago resident for 76 years, died last Wednesday at her home, 1839 South Troy St. Her husband, Elijah Peacock, who died 15 years ago, established the metal manufacturing concern at 115 S. Clinton St., and was a cousin of C. D. Peacock, founder, of C. D. Peacock, Inc., one of Chicago’s oldest retail jewelry firms. For five years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Peacock resided above the first Peacock store at Randolph and Franklin Sts. Funeral services were held on Friday in the home and burial was at Graceland Cemetery.

Robert Peacock, of C. D. Peacock, Inc., left last week for New York where he spent a few days before sailing for Europe. Mr. Peacock was accompanied by his wife and will make the trip a combination of business and pleasure.
