No further arrests have been made as a result of the discovery a fortnight ago that gold clippings were being pilfered from the goldsmithing department of the Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. than that of Abraham Lawrence, who was accused by Edward Williams, head of the department, with the theft of $500 worth of gold. Lawrence is awaiting trial on the charge. The clippings were from medal shavings, and there appears to be little reason to expect that any other employes will be involved or a conspiracy unearthed.

The death of C. F. Schertzinger, who was for 11 years head watchmaker for Charles H. Clark, occurred a few days ago at his home in this city after an illness of about 10 months. Mr. Schertzinger had a large number of very warm personal friends, who are grieved at his departure. During his long illness inquiries as to his condition came almost daily to Mr. Clark’s store, and a large number of friends paid tribute to his worth at the funeral. The deceased came here from Philadelphia, where he worked for the Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. He was 63 years old.

Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Chestnut St. at 16th St. are experimenting with single column, full-page ads, each devoted to one type of merchandise. A particularly successful one was one next to women’s wear ads from other stores which featured earrings. This firm is one of several using “split-ads” (several smaller ads appearing in the same newspaper rather than one large ad).
