A magic trick

Post by amena »

This silver-plated bucket by Kerr & Phillips magically becomes an antique holy water bucket made in Naples in the 19th century in solid silver.

The Catello brothers' book, the bible of antique Neapolitan silver, is even brought up.
But what is the expert who endorses this nonsense doing?
The auction house has no address to report this to.

CAPTION TRANSLATION
ANTIQUE and RARE TO FIND SILVER HOLY WATER STOUP (chemically tested) or Holy Water Bucket - Naples 19th century
Handcrafted (note the irregularities between the joints of the scrolls, photos No. 8-9) like an embossed vase with a ribbed part, chiseled, decorated with scroll and swirl motifs, shaped handle, in the taste of the 18th century neoclassical/first half of the 19th century.

This effect is characteristic of the Neapolitan production of sacred furnishings and in our case finds comparisons in similar examples in public and private collections documented in "Argenti napoletani dal XVI al XIX secolo" by E. and C. Catello, Naples 1973,

And for their next trick, they will turn that holy water into wine.
