Dating James Dixon & Sons (UK) Silverplate

Post by Shiny.Old.Things »

Hello everyone :-)

My first post is to ask how to date a particular maker's silverplate items. In this case it's a toast rack by James Dixon & Sons (Sheffield, UK). As this item does not have the "trumpet" mark, can I assume that it's before 1879? Also, what do the numbers (4 7 P) and the mark (J star/asterix C) mean? Thanks a bunch, and kind regards...
