Provincial or Colonial spoons for ID help

Post by user701 »

A local charity (shop) asked if I could help ID the origin of these serving spoons. I have looked through all of my silver hallmark books and exhausted my saved links for colonial and provincial silver. They think they are from Greenock because of the anchor, but I know that is incorrect. I personally feel they are colonial, maybe India?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, most likely not solid silver but nickel silver, silver-plated. To me it looks like a row of silver-plate marks, their appearances are deceiving, they give the impression to be silver hallmarks,

Thank you, Peter. I will do some research into the marks today. I have a couple of silver plate markings books and a few websites I can check through.

Interesting the first three symbols, the cross, the anchor, and the heart, in that order, represent the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity.

Thank you for that, Trev. It may be significant, and I will pass it all on to Maria at the charity shop when I drop the spoons back to them tomorrow.

Interesting pair of spoons. Have seen the Anchor and uppercase A on plated flatware by Prime of Birmingham.
