Simon of Hamburg

Post by dognose »

Hi,

Does anyone recognise the maker or maybe the retailer of this Hamburg spoon? And can an age be determined from the city mark? It is 9" (23cm.) in length.

The letter "F" in the city mark was used by the final warden of the Hamburg guild, Johann H. J. Wienicke, from November 1857 to the dissolution of the guild in 1865. The maker "Simon" was Isaak Beehr Simon, a Dane who was not a member of the guild, but was granted the right to practice in Hamburg as a gold- and silverworker in June 1858.
