Very Old Silver Mug marked "REGISTERED X"

Post by registeredx »

Greetings,
I picked this old mug up at a garage sale in Fort Erie Ontario. The only markings on it are "REGISTERED" with a squigly "X". The item appears to be pure silver and not plated. It's very soft and there are no signs of copper showing through. It has the distinct silver smell when you rub it. IT measures about 4" tall by 3-1/2" wide at the base and 2-1/2" wide at the top. Numerous bends and dents. Appears hand made and again is very soft. Any help identifying the age, what it is, is it silver, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, might be pewter rather than silver. I would not rely on the smell too much. Best wishes, Bahner

Thanks. Never thought about pewter. Glad I only paid $1 for it. I'll use it for a decorator piece.
