Provide details of maker MK

Post by jlumbtx »

This is an unusual budding or grafting knife. Normally the handle covers would be wood or bone or horn or antler. This began as a skeleton knife made by G. Ibberson of Sheffield no later than 1988. A skeleton knife is the core of a knife minus the handle covers which will be added later by someone else.

These handle covers seem to have been added by MK of Birmingham in 1992, if I’m reading the date stamp correctly. Since the sterling covers were apparently added some years after Ibberson went out of business, I’d guess that MK had a stock of skeleton knives ready to be completed when someone needed a presentation or promotion piece. Perhaps this is a promotional item MK made to promote itself.

I haven’t found any information about MK. Can you tell me anything?
