Arabic/Persian Vase with Flower on Base

Post by suzzybabe »

Hi,

Can anyone help me with the country of origin of this vase (which I found it in my grandmothers attic) and if any hallmark. There is a flower on base this could be a lotus flower but I am not sure if this is the hallmark. There is writing around centre which may be persian I was told.

The vase may be solid silver with copper or brass. it is very heavy and looks like it was hand engraved.

Any help much appreciated.

Suzzanne

Does the writing go all around the vase? The writing does look Arabic, however, I am unable to read it completely as only a portion of it shows. Perhaps if you provide the full script, I would be able to translate it for you.

Thanks Hada,

I have photgraphed the vase all the way round so all the writing should be showing.

If you are able to translate this would be great, this vase has been a mystery for so long.

let me know if the images are clear enough

Thanks

Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for the pictures. I've gone right around the vase, letter by letter and it says " Batla yaqood rushdaho " The last two words mean " have become mature" but the first word has no meaning per say. Perhaps "Batla" is someone's name but it's not an Arabic name. My guess is that this piece is Pakistani as I think the writing, though Arabic letter, is actually Urdu, so a person who speaks Urdu, a Pakistani, Northern Indian could probably give you the meaning of the first word. The work is not Middle Eastern nor is the peice old. It's contemporary. Hope this helps.
