Eastern silver necklace with ?arabic writing. Help ID please

Post by collecting.dust »

Hi all

I have been trying to ID this silver necklace for a little while without much luck. Can anyone help me. I have already tried the Haramlik site but dont see anything similar.
The necklace is heavy, tests as silver and shows the same arabic ?? writing on both sides. There are no markings I am afraid.

Any idea where this originates from, what the writing means ? Any other info you could give me would also be a great help.

Thank you for looking.

Cheers

Debbie

Hi,

I've looked at your piece which has been highly praised as well by the jewelers who have seen its picture. This is no doubt a Middle Eastern piece, more specifically worn by the beduoin, Arab nomads. With that said, it would be difficult to discern the exact origin as it may be from the Levant (Syria, Jordan, Palestine )or the Arabian Penninsula (Saudi Arabia, Yemen) No doubt it is Arab and Islamic. The coins are original Islamic pieces. You may need to check with a nuministic society to establish the date. The workmanship is original, meaning the necklace has not been redone,or refashioned. You have a very beautiful and authentic item.

Hello Hada

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look at this for me. It was very kind of you.
I have had this necklace a while. Its been one of those pieces that I kept in my own collection kniwing nothing at all about it. It has sat quietly in the background waiting for a day when something more could be discovered !!
I had felt it had some age - that it was at least pre-war.
Mmm - I wonder how old it is - I will do as you say and seek the advice of
a nuministic society.

I did not realise that these were real coins - I had thought they were just discs - so thats good to know and may help me pin this down a bit further.
