What is it? .... and who made it?

What is this thing used for? It is about 9" long, 3" high, curved bottom. It is marked 800 and hallmarked 73PA. I am assuming by the 800 that this is German. Please correct me if I am mistaken. Thank you for looking and for any help you can offer.

Your picture isn't showing up for me. Sounds like it might be Italian rather German, the 73 being the maker's code and the PA for Palermo province.

Cheryl is absolutely correct: Palermo, Italy . . . and between 1946 and 1964, judging by the mark. (Sorry, don't know the maker.) And while it's on the small side, I believe it's a bread basket.

Would have considered it as a biscuit server.
