Is This Spoon Silver Or Plate? + Registered Design Number

Hello,

I wonder if if someone can give their view on this silver spoon, which is hallmarked for Birmingham with date letter ‘ s ‘ for 1967. However the spoon has the maker’s marks A.S.P. Co for the Angora Silver Plate Co Ltd. Is this unusual as this would suggest that the spoon is silver-plate but it cannot be as it has the full and legal hallmarks as already mentioned?

It also has a registered design no : RD 813006 with MADE IN ENGLAND on the stem. Could someone also help in directing me to how I can trace this number? I go to the website run by the government archive but they state there should be a seven letter number and the spoon has six.

The spoon is sterling and the marks are correct see Home Page - British Hallmarks - Birmingham City Marks. The Registered Design No is for 1936 and these numbers can be found by going to the Home Page - British Registry Dates on this site.

Thanks for the quick answer. I'm still confused as to the registry mark and what it means. Okay, the number on my spoon is within the group of numbers for the year 1936 but I was hoping to find my particular number and any details associated with it, eg. the details of the registered design, the name of the design, who designed it, etc. Is there an archive somewhere where I can input the design number to find these particulars? Also I find it intriguing that the makers of the spoon, The Angora Silver Plate Co., used a registered design from 1936 when the spoon was manufactured in 1967. Did the design always belong to the Angora Silver Plate Co. or did they borrow/buy it to use in 1967? Or could the spoon have been made in 1936 and then later hallmarked in 1967? Any info on company practice from this period would be very appreciated and thanks to anyone who can help.
