THE 19th-20th CENTURY SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICAN TRADE

Image

There appears to be scant information available regarding the silver trade in South and Central America during the 20th century. If you have any knowledge on the subject, mark examples, advertisements, etc. that you're willing to share, then here's the place to post it.

Established in 1933 at Lima by an Italian, Carlo Mario Camusso Grasso. The business is now in the hands of the third generation and Roberto Degasperi Camusso, who took over from Siro Tonani Ricci (1980 - 2001).

Carlo Mario Camusso Grasso was married to Carmela Ivaldi, he died on the 11th June 1985 at San Isidro, Lima, Perú. The control of the business appears to have passed to Siro Tonani Ricci, Carlo's son-in-law and husband to Carlo's daughter, Rosanna Teresa Camusso Ivaldi. In 2001 control passed to Carlo's grandson, Roberto Giorgio Degasperi Camusso, he is the son of Alberto De Gasperi Orsetto and Carlo's other daughter, Giliana Lorenzina F. Camusso Ivaldi.

Example of the work and marks of Camusso:

The business of Englishman, William Disney Barlow. Barlow was married to an Anglo-Argentine girl, Beatrice Amy Delisle, the daughter of Leopold Delisle. They had a son, Leopold Ruxton Barlow, who may have connected with the business.

W.D. Barlow & Co. were registered with the London and Birmingham assay offices.

An earlier business noted in 1903, that of 'Roberts & Barlow', of Florida 371, Buenos Aires, is likely to be identified with Barlow y Ca.

Barlow y Ca. held the sole agency in Argentina for the products of Elkington & Co.Ltd. from 1908 to 1915. Such Elkington products are marked with Barlow & Co.'s name:

The above mark was noted with an Elkington date mark of 1911.
