Birmingham 1825 No Maker's Mark, but...
Birmingham 1825 No Maker's Mark, but...
Hi...This is the first time I am on this forum. I was hoping someone could help me identify some silver objects I have. I have a Grooming Set with various pieces, including nail buff, hand mirror, hairbrush, etc. They all have Duty, City and Date marks, Sterling and an identifying number (such as 45/4D). I think the numbers indicate the pattern and the item number (any help with this would be greatly appreciated). There is no Maker's Mark, but off to the right of the Marks is either a tiny stamped spoon or a tiny stamped horn. I think these are not the maker's mark, but may be the individual craftsman. I was hoping to get help in confirming or correcting my conclusions and also help in identifying the Silversmith. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give me. Thanks!

Here are the pictures...the first is the whole Hallmark...I hope you can see it, but off to the right is a stamped spoon...on another item instead of the spoon, there is a tiny horn...I have included pics of the spoon and the horn, as well as the back of the hairbrush. Thank you for any insights you may have!

Well, this forum is great! I just looked at another post and it seems these are probably not Birmingham, but American Gorham and the tiny horn and spoon are the date marks. Thanks to all for your time anyway!

Hi,
Not Birmingham, and not 1825 I'm afraid. But Providence RI, and 1919 and 1920.
A read of this page will explain all: http://www.925-1000.com/Gorham_Date_Code.html
