Souvenirs have been appearing in Calgary in large quantities for the Jubilee and Stampede which is being held in that city this month. Medals of various sorts showing the Mounted Police and the Indians shaking hands have made their appearance and manufacturers are producing them in large quantities for the hundreds of visitors who will participate in this celebration.
Among the buildings destroyed in a fire which burned a number of business: places in the village of Athens, Ont., on July 12, was the jewelry store of Cyril Churchley.
At about 11 o’clock on the night of July 12 the jewelry story of Russell H. Thompson at North Bay, Ont., was broken into by a robber who smashed the front window with a stone. He secured three watches of medium value, but left a number of more costly ones. Blood was found on some of the goods in the window, indicating that in breaking the glass the thief had cut himself, which may lead to his detection.
An absolute bill of sale has been given by the Jewelry & Import Co., Ltd., Vancouver, B. C., and by Goldie Goldberg to the Rubinowitz Department Stores, of British Columbia.
The Kerco Jewelry Co., Ltd. of Montreal has been incorporated to carry on the business as wholesale and manufacturing jewelers, with $50,000 capital, by Lazarus Phillips, Lionel A. Sperber, Harry Blanshay and others.
The jewelry store of Raoul Lanthier of 860 Mount Royal Ave., Montreal, was robbed of jewelry to the value of $300 by a thief who early on Feb. 19 threw a brick through the window and extracted jewelry, through the aperture, with which he escaped.
John A. Barbridge a prominent business man of Belleville, Ont. died on Feb. 12. He was a native of St. Johns, Que. and came to Belleville many years ago engaging in the jewelry trade in connection with the firm headed by Mr. Allan. Mr. Barbridge subsequently became proprietor of the business which he successfully conducted for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the I. 0. 0. F. He was well-known in musical circles and was a member of the Belleville Odd Fellows band which had a widespread reputation as an organization of high standing in the musical world. A widow and daughter survive.
