THE ROYAL BOMBAY YACHT CLUB AND NAINI TAL YACHT CLUB INTER-CLUB CHALLENGE CUP




The above trophy is the prize in the bi-annual series of matches between these two yacht clubs which were inaugurated in 1912. On a massive plinth, surrounded with silver medallions and supported on two sides by silver miniatures of starting guns, stands a fluted column surmounted by a globe on which is poised the figure of Victory, holding in either hand the burgees of the respective clubs. The burgees are interchangeable, and thus that of the winning club for the year may be placed in the hand of Victory which is held aloft.

This trophy is the work of The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, 112, Regent Street, London, W., from designs by Major C. W. Carey, Vice-Commodore of the N.T.Y.C., and has been presented by His Honour Sir James Moston, Lieut.-Governor of the United Provinces (Commodore N.T.Y.C.), and by the Royal Bombay Yacht Club.

GORHAM SILVER SERVICE TAKES TO THE AIR


Western Air Express Line Uses Gorham Silver Service

Gorham silver service produced by the Gorham Co., Providence, R. I., is standard equipment on the fleet of 18, 36-passenger tri-motored Fokkers operated by the Western Air Express. The larger of these giant " skyliners” the interior of one of which is illustrated herewith , costs the operators $110,000 to construct.



The 14 stewards of this line are enthusiastic over the silver appointments on the liners and agree that the passengers enjoy the fleeting panorama more thoroughly when served with a “ dainty bite " en route. This enjoyment is genuine, states the Western Air Express concern because " we use the best possible table appointments for the air dinner. ”

FORD CHOOSES ALVIN


Airplane Division of Ford Motor Co. Equips Planes with Alvin Silver

Planes launched at Dearborn, Mich., by the Stout Metal Airplane Co., division of the Ford Motor Co., are now delivered to their new owners fully equipped with a set of silverware in the new “ Dawn" pattern procured by the Alvin Corp., Providence , R. I. The first plane so equipped was one that was recently sold to the Timken Roller Bearing Co. , Canton, Ohio, which was awarded first prize at the recent National Aviation Show in St. Louis.

When the news reached the Alvin Corp. that a set of their new " Dawn ” pattern was included as equipment on this prize-winning plane, C. S. DeFord, sales manager of the corporation, wrote to Dearborn for confirmation. A few days ago he received a letter from C. P. Vary of the Stout Metal Airplane Co. , division of the Ford Motor Co. , inclosing a photograph of one of the planes equipped with Alvin silver and interior pictures of the famous prize-winning Timken plane with a table all set for an air-travel luncheon.



" It may be interesting to you to note ," said Mr. Vary, “ that this plane is equipped with racks for thermos jugs, silver and glassware, ice-box, sink and drain board, running water in both toilet and kitchen, gas stove, electric lights, radio for broadcast reception , seven over stuffed chairs, a sofa, and one upper berth which may be lowered and used as occasion requires.”

CASTLE ROCK CAMP

Meredith, New Hampshire




..........Speaking of lakes, the waters in, around and about Meredith have been compared to the five great lakes— Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario. They are Winnipesaukee, Waukewan, Wiewas, Winnisquam, and the Bay, which latter is an arm of the first named. Unlike the Great Lakes, these are home-like, comprehensible and accessible. They are not too far away from anywhere, or from each other—thirty-seven miles from Concord and one hundred and twelve from Boston. The attractions of land and water are here combined. The Belknap, Ossipee and Sandwich Mountains are close at hand, and Mount Washington is but little more than fifty miles away. Nor are there any disasters here, as on the Great Lakes. The ‘‘sea going’’ is entirely safe, and there is no getting out of sight of land. On the shores of these beautiful waters are sites for ten thousand summer homes, many of which might pleasantly be occupied even in the winter time by those who have leisure at their command. UIltimately these sites will be largely occupied. Trolley lines will run all about the shores and motor boats, galore, will fly upon the waters; but it will be many a year before the development possibilities will be exhausted. Care should be taken that these sites are held accessible to the people, and not monopolized by speculators; nor should high taxes be imposed on camps and cottages.

There is already the foundation for a large summer colony located on these charming Meredith shores, mainly on the ‘‘Neck,’’ with many cosy and attractive camps and cottages. Among the most attractive of these is ‘‘Castle Rock Camp,’’ the summer home of G. K. Webster, of the well-known Webster Company, silversmiths, of North Attleboro, Mass., whose New York office is in the Gill Building, 9-13 Maiden Lane, which camp commands a delightful view and is greatly admired.
