Info on Albert Carter

Post by Granmaa »

I would be very grateful to anyone who could give me any information on Albert Carter, particularly regarding his wares and their quality. I have a compact and cigarette case of his which seem to be of tremendous quality, and yet I have not heard of him before. My ignorance or has he not been given the credit he deserves?

Hello again Miles,
Can't tell you much about Carter's wares or their quality although I must say your cigarette case looks special.
I have a note (can't remember from where) of Carter registering his Birmingham mark in 1917.
There's also a similar roundish Chester mark registered in 1938 to an Albert Carter of Vicarage Works 40 Frederick Street Birmingham who is likely to be one and the same.
Regards,
Mike

Thanks for that Mike. I suppose this is probably the 1920 V; though I've never been able to distinguish it from the 1945 V.

Hi Miles, Although registered in 1917... it appears that his work covers much later dates... I think 192? to 195?.

Best wishes, Mike.
