This is Robert Livingston(e) Christie. Christie's were perhaps the longest running business, involved in the silver trade, in Edinburgh. Established in 1821, they finally closed their doors for the last time in 2007.

The firm was in the hands of Joseph Esplin Cargill and Grace Mary Christie during the earlier part of the 20th century and later under George Richardson Cumming.

Robert Livingston(e) Christie entered marks at the London and Edinburgh assay offices.

Do you by any chance what Christies put there mark on?
Was it mostly jewellery and watch cases?
I Today picked up a glorious set of 6 cased lemon squeezers hallmarked from 1989.

The only reference I have to hand, John Culme's Directory of Gold & Silversmiths, notes that in 1897 they were listed as a retail Jeweller, watch and clock maker. Nothing more at the moment on their later wares.

Hello Colin

My notes show there are spoons around with Christie's mark on them suggesting that, in common with a lot of jewellers and watch retailers, they carried a sideline of small silverwares.
