Amsterdam jug with worn makersmark

Hi,

This Amsterdam jug (weight 202 gramms, high 14 cm, ivory handle) has the date letter Q (probably 1775) and a worn mastermark BB or DB or ...? I can't find him. Frustrating, because I have all the books that are needed to find this Amsterdam master. Maybe I looked for the wrong initials?

Alles goed? At the moment I am deprived from information and books about Dutch guild marks but I would like to ask you what happened to the Amsterdam city mark and 1st standard city mark. Has both marks been punched over the short sides of a rectangular punch mark (over struck)? It looks like there is a hole in the middle of the rectangular?
Could the initials conjoined be; DR, BR, DvB, BvR , DvP or BvP

Hi Oel,

Thank you! You gave the idea to look for D, B, P, R. I found the maker in Citroen. It is Reyndert Ringalda, 1771- before 1807. The city mark and the dateletter Q= 1775, fits.
As for the city mark and the 1e standard mark: I can't see an overstruck. The "hole" in the middle is the centrepoint. The two "trembleersteken" to measure the content of the silver, are indeed a little bit odd, but - in my opinion - they don't misfit the jugs marks.

Thanks for explaining. Yes, two straight assay marks and certainly no zig zag this time. I personally never saw this kind of ‘set up’ before and it certainly does not misfit the jug. Very good you could place the maker’s mark and confirmed by Citroen. Thanks for showing us an image.
