Despite carrying out some initial research, I’m still at a loss as to the makers mark on my silver/plated cigarette case. I’ve managed to decipher that the piece is from Birmingham and is dated 1926 (although, I could be completely wrong). However, the initials T.W have thrown me slightly.
At first, I thought that it could be the work of the silversmith Thomas Wooley; however, after carrying out a little more research, I discovered that the date of the piece didn’t quite add up with the dates in which Thomas Wooley was operating (although, once again, I could be completely mistaken). The only other name I could conjure was that of ‘T. Wilkinson and Sons'. However, from what I can gather, the ‘T. Wilkinson and Sons’ mark would usually read ‘TW and Sons’ or have the word ‘Sons’ marked somewhere separately. In the case of my cigarette case, the hallmark simply reads ‘T.W’, with no mention of the word ‘Sons’ .
Like I say, I’m at a complete loss as to the makers mark and any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. In addition, any historical information on the silversmith who produced the piece would be absolutely fantastic.
Many thanks.
