Hallmarks for 19th Century Mexican Silver

Post by ms-artypants »

I feel like I know 20th Century Mexican Silver hallmarks pretty well. But, I think I've come across a pre-1900 piece of Mexican Silver. I can't seem to find any reference material for silver hallmarking in Mexico prior to 1900. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Many thanks.

The mark is for a platter. It is round with a large Mexican eagle standing on cactus in the center and "Republica Mexicana" above the eagle. There are 5 stars surrounding the mark in sort of random locations. Above the large eagle is a crown in a cartouche with a star above the crown.

Thanks for any assistance.
